A former corporate dealer for a leading stock-broking firm in Kuala Lumpur, owner, baker and cake designer, Irma Suryani Shahabudin is truly passionate about making cakes and appreciates being part of the happy process of a birthday/office and wedding parties. Irma entered the world of cakes by studying cake making from a professional chef from Australia. She’s been hooked on the art and craft of cake making. Irma’s life long love of baking and craft finally found a place to blossom when she decided to fulfill her dreams and launch Sweet Surprise and eventually changed the name to Vanilla Pod.
Now, Irma together with her husband Ismail(who has a background in design work), manages Vanilla Pod on a daily basis with Ismail as the head cake decorator.
Irma grew up in Sungai Petani, Kedah, Malaysia and received a bachelor’s degree in finance from The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, USA. It was while studying in US, that her interest in baking began to bloom and she began her to take up baking as a serious hobby. When not baking, Irma regularly participates in cooking & baking workshop around the city and overseas.
